The Modern pergola strips the design down to its essential geometry: square-cut beam and rafter ends, beams flush to 10-inch square columns, and a complete absence of decorative profiles. It is a precise, confident box of structure that reads as intentional and architectural in contemporary settings where traditional ornament would feel out of place.
A Baldwin modern pergola is the result of nearly four decades of experience applied to a single goal: building the most beautiful, most durable, most thoughtfully made outdoor structure available. Our CNC manufacturing produces the clean square cuts and flush connections that this style demands, processed to within 0.001" precision.
Essential Geometry: Modern, clean-lined, and square-cut architecture.
Pultruded Fiberglass: Rot-proof, insect-proof, and dimensionally stable material.
Pre-Cambered Beams: 3/8"–1/2" upward crown built-in ensures your beams never sag.
Zero Maintenance Burden: Requires no structural maintenance, unlike wood or vinyl.
Factory Finishing: Finished in Benjamin Moore paint — any color, custom matched.
Concealed Electrical: Hollow members allow for invisible wiring of fans, lights, and heaters.
CNC Precision: Rafter notching and flush connections calibrated for structural honesty.
This commercial property in Connecticut contacted us for a custom, modern pergola that could handle the scale of a public courtyard without traditional ornament.
We worked with their architect to design a structure that captures the essence of modern geometry: flush connections and 10-inch square columns.
The efficiency of pultruded fiberglass allowed us to offer a price that surprised the client — leading them to upgrade their order from one structure to two.
In a minimalist design, there is nowhere for a sloppy joint to hide. Every CNC notch is precision-calibrated for architectural clarity.
Now we cherish every modern project; each structure challenges us to refine our clean-line manufacturing and deliver permanent value.
We can follow our in-house Modern Pergola design or go fully custom. It all starts with a simple drawing or a photo of your space.
Every modern pergola begins as a precise architectural concept designed to serve a specific landscape profile.
The clean lines of a modern structure must be balanced against its intended purpose: whether shading a pool deck or defining an outdoor room.
We work with you to ensure that the proportions of your modern structure speak the same architectural language as your building.
The best modern designs are often the ones that collectively stretch the architectural envelope of what outdoor living can be.
Fiberglass provides the torsional rigidity needed for large-scale modern spans — without the maintenance of heavy materials.
We provide the precision manufacturing; you provide the vision. Let's build your custom modern pergola today.
Eric BarberioOur pergola looks remarkably good, the site, the positioning, the strength, the aesthetics, the measurements are all essentially perfect. My wife doesn't just like the pergola, she loves it! Thank you again.
Charlie NicolaMax - Thanks for the instructions on assembling the pergola - went together nicely and looks great in our small back yard! Regards, Charlie
Lynn & JimThe pergola is the focus of our garden and patio area. It succeeded in bringing it all together as we had hoped! The shade is more than ample. I do not believe that I would change any of the specs or proportions if I had a chance to alter the order. It worked out marvelously and have received tons of compliments! Your attention to detail and quality construction is to be commended. Thank you for a job well done.
Tom PetitMatt, I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with the new pergola. As a woodworker I appreciate the precision and thoroughness of the kit. I installed the cement pads the previous weekend and did the entire remaining installation in about 6 hours the following weekend with one helper. Very nice looking and I know I am going to enjoy the long term benefits of using a fiberglass products. I will send you a photo as soon as I finish the 10' dining table and benches that I am building to complete the pergola/dining area.
Terry McKinneyMax, I wanted to drop you a line on the pergola. I have received nothing but rave reviews on this "magnificent structure". All of our expectations have been meet and exceeded - your shop has done a great job. We are celebrating an engagement and it will get a lot of usage during that party. Thanks again for your commitment on getting it here as you promised. We will look forward to many years of enjoyment.
Glenn Scott of ArizonaAgain I would like to say thanks, dealing with you has been a distinct pleasure. In my line of work it is really refreshing to know there are honest reputable people still around.
Lynn TempleThank you Max! You and your team are awesome and we are proud to have a "new" Baldwin Pergola!
Anthony MassaI want to thank you folks, again, for doing such a nice job on the pergola. It really adds to the deck, and I'm sure that we'll really enjoy it in the spring and summer. I'll probably be in touch, some time in the future, regarding retractable canopy shades.
John MasonMax, the Pergola turned out great. No problems with installation and my customer and I are very pleased with the product. I look forward to doing business with you in the future.
Douglas RoseThe Pergola really is stellar, and your design features really lend themselves to our theme of an American \'Japanese Tea House\' with the layered and staggered entablature, rafter, and purlins. We have shown the Pergola to several neighbors and friends and now they are bringing their spouses and relatives to come look at it and its view overlooking the terraced garden.
